Hello Samsung? Kernel Sources?

A few days ago samsung started rolling out ICS for the galaxys s II.
But where are the kernel sources?

It looks like that samsung is actually performing very bad if it comes to android.
- canceled rollout for 2.3.6 because of bugs
- non existent user experience on their ics roms (they really killed ics fully with touchwiz)
- only one device received a ics update yet, the other 1000000 are still waiting (that’s what happens if you flood the market with 100000 different variants)
- slow at releasing sources
- zero community support
- late on quadcore phone

Normally HTC is slow at releasing stuff, but hey hey… look what we got here:
HTC Sensation (HTC Europe) – ICS CRC – 3.0.16 kernel source code
HTC Sensation XE (HTC Europe) – ICS CRC – 3.0.16 kernel source code
HTC Vivid (Telstra WWE) – ICS CRC – 3.0.16 kernel source code

And finally some nice to read news:

Hopeffully enough people have signed the petition for the sources… I would like to think it might help… But as mentioned before, my next device will be a Google controlled one (will not mind if they partner with Samsung again though I foresee Motorola instead :)

  2. Eddy says:

The link is not working Codeworkx!
But I totally agree with you, HTC is doing a much better job to support the community.

  3. cypressious says:

Legally, Samsung is forced to release the kernel sources. We might start flooding them with emails about this.

  4. Saman says:

I’ll never buy another Samsung device! even Nexus one!

  5. Rushikh says:

I think someone should hack into Samsung and release the code, Anonymous anyone?

  6. Akkii says:

    Well that was expected :P

  7. Johnny says:

    Just my 2 cents. :)

    • codeworkx says:

        That´s marketing scheinbar..

  30. nobodynhio says:

Has Samsung released all needed parts today?

  31. waynebx says:

Looks like they’ve finally done it. Looking forward to new CM9 build with new kernel

  32. Tom says:

Daniel it looks like they listened to you, partially at least, and released the kernet sources for SGS2:).

I have one question – not about hacking the sources because it’s obvious for me that you need time to analyze it, buy about the development process in general: when we can expect the first CM compilation with the kernel compiled from the sources? Will it be the next nightly?

  33. DerK says:

Samsung has released their kernel source for the s2 today.

    Visit https://opensource.samsung.com/index.jsp
    and search for: gt-i9100_ics_opensource_update4.zip

  34. ics hunter says:

Hey codeworkx… a question about the cm9 build. I have noticed that in the browser there is a lag when scrolling down a page. Like you put your finger on the screen move it down and the page has a half second delay before following? Is this known about or anything. Thanks!

  35. goldenivory says:

    :)

  36. Tom says:

Codeworkx – thanks for the work you do for ours SGS 2. I’m observing the nightly changelog for SGS2 with interest everyday and I think in a month or so I’ll switch to CM9 after you would have spent some time playing with the kernet sources & optimizing.

  37. giacombum says:

Hi, when a CM9 build with Samsung sources will be available? Is it the last nightly (20-03-2012)?

    • sprite1g says:

No offense dude, but you are SOOOOOOO late!!! There are already nightly builds with the kernel sources…

Reading the last previous posts helps sometimes.
      Enjoy the builds.

  38. Cliff says:

With the sources out, is there anything not fully functional with cm9?

And what makes a rom a stable?
