Galaxy S II CM9 Status update

It has become very silent about cm9 development for the sgs2 over the last few days.
The cause for it is, we’re working hard on a lot of stuff.

We tried to brew our own 3.X based kernel (only basic board support) but did hit a wall. How to debug a non booting device without UART? Seems not possible and i don’t want to disassemble my device.

We tried to hack the samsung kernel without success.

Xplodwild did some cosmetic changes to the camera app to support some additional scene modes and stuff. Besides it, he fights with the video problems we’re having.

I played with the opensource samsung ril, helped on the galaxy sl cm9 port and did some cm9 builds for the galaxy nexus.

I’m not very motivated at the moment to put more hours into it.
Let’s wait for a wonder. ;-)

    Tnx a lot :-) !

A wonder ? Like Sammy releasing all their source code so far ?
Oh no, that would be more like miracle ! :)

Still, we do all appreciate all you guys do.

(If anyone else could figure out what’s causing the glitches with Chrome I’d be happy for a while then)

    • sprite1g says:

Actually, Sammy decided to release all source code including the drivers code for the SGSII… It was a change of policy from them. They’ve done so ever since for each update to the SGSII. There’s no reason to think they’ll do otherwise with this one.

We all are motivated to use CM9, so it would disappoint us if u get …

    • Stanman says:

      >implying he gives a shit what you think. He does this in his spare time, you could at least be grateful.

      • sprite1g says:

I think Arshdeep meant what he said as a complement, although he chose a strange set of words to do so…

  4. Kh0rdan says:

Thanks for the status update codeworkx!
    Let’s hope you’ll get the kernel sourcecode soon… ;)

  5. Unknown says:

Yes we all wating for magic

  6. Ant says:

But Generally, when does a mobile company like Samsung release kernel sources? Before or after the release of the firmware (in this case ICS) ?

  7. oldskater says:

its always great to see a progress update, even if only to say your need a break.
is a weekend. go for a meal, see a movie, treat a girl nice.

CM9 can wait a few more days and you never know when inspiration will come with a flash.

  8. ogy says:

Hope soon release and new bulid,we ready to flash and try it :)

  9. IamSachin says:

Rumors say that official update for SGS2 is coming on March 1st. I guess the sources will be released right after that. codeworkx, in the past how long did samsung take to release source code after the official KIES update release?

  10. James George says:

I prefer to run the experimental versions you currently have over the stable versions out there. Still, looking forward to the next update! Good luck and thank you for the great work you put in to CM9!

  11. Brigzzy says:

Thank you for the update, and for all the hard work you do! Your ROMs rule!

  13. sprite1g says:

Thanks for the update… You’re doing great! Take some time off dude, we can wait…

Eventually the sources will get released, and I’m sure as hell you’ll give us the best custom ROM out there.

  16. Akkii says:

Ah well good luck hope u beat samsung to it :P

    • sprite1g says:

I don’t care if the team beats Samsung to it (although I won’t complain if they do). All I do care about is that their version will be much better.

    • Akkii says:

yeah but making something of ur own from scratch is a bigger achievement aint it? better yet beating them at a game a mnc sucks at :D

  17. Said says:

@Codeworkx: Dont get me wrong,i traded my sgs2 for sensation month ago,and came to see your progress. Man,i dont think that any other device has achieved this much progress (reggardless the samsung closed source politics and shit). Hats off for you Codeworkx. You’re excellent coder and developer. Great job!

  18. Massimo says:

Thanks a lot for your ROM, now it’s great… I’m sure that when you get Samsung source w’ll be the best rom on the web ;-) .

  19. Hope says:

Thank you for your wonderful roms.

Can I get SGS2 device tree source code for ICS from github.com ? Thx :)

  20. sprite1g says:

And of course it will be.

  21. epsmed says:

  23. Burak says:

I use this ROM since the first release and say thats the best rom i ever used.. If that’s what you do without the sources, then i want to see this rom WITH the sources.. I think it would be magical :D

Your 02012012 rom is running very well on daily basis! Hope you will refind your spirit.
Keep up the good work. Very much appreciated!

    Cheers!

  26. Eddi says:

    Hey codeworkx,

kannst du mir eventuell erklären, warum meine Beats Pro auf meinem SGS2 nur auf einer Seite funktionieren? Auf einem LGOS und an meinen 10.1v läufts einwandfrei…

  27. Tom says:

Codeworkx: now that you have throwed your SGS2 out of the windows what will happen with the development? ;-)

  28. l05443 says:

hey codeworks, I ran into some trouble while using the current release. Not sure if its related to the FW or just a coincident. Ill send the phone to repair. Thought to let you know:

Been trying 02122012 for a few days now. Having an issue where any browser will not load a page. I didn’t have this issue with 02012012.

Anyone else had this error codeworkx?

  30. Samwan says:

  31. Robert says:

Though I don’t use any custom mod at the time (CM7 wasn’t that stable on the S2), I really appreciate your effort to make things work.

  32. Tran Hiep says:

will Origen Board help your effort to build your own 3.x.x kernel? I and community will donate!

    Hi,
I have just posted my findings about kernel console on UART for I9100 on xda developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22929134). No soldering on the device or even disassembly required.
Maybe it will help with your custom kernel development :-) .
Good luck and thanks for all your work so far.

OK… So now that there’s been an official release for the past few hours, did they release the sources already?
