Next steps…

Think we made good progress on CM9 for the SGS2 till now.

To fix the remaining bugs we need kernel sources from samsung and some exynos4 specific bits from origenboard we’re waiting for.
Hope both are releasing sources this month so that we’re done with the SGS2 specific part when CM9 is finished.

You know, CM9 isn’t finished yet. There are a lot of features and tweaks missing. These experimental builds aren’t showing the real potential of CM9. ;-)

And if everything is running fine on our SGS2, then it doesn’t mean we’re finished. Our goal is to eliminate most of the closed source parts we have to use at the moment. That’s the part which is the most hard and which i would call “the real work”.

Maybe we can get some time now to work on a Filemanager for CM while waiting for sources. Since i ruptured my ligaments of the right foot at the new years morning while going home from a great party, i’ve some free time this week.

Stay tuned and enjoy the experimental builds.

    Hey codeworkx,

I just want to let u know, that the current version of cm9 for i9100 is, in my opinion, almost as good as perfect. used to it as a daily since it’s got released publicly.

nevertheless, all the best to ur injury and get well soon.

  2. Helikopter says:

Does this mean that there will be no video recording and proper video playback until you have access to kernel source?

Anyway, thanks for the great work so far. I’ll try to use this one as a daily driver until something more awesome comes from the team.

    • codeworkx says:

      Probably.

      • Logi_Ca1 says:

That’s really too bad. Smooth HW-accelerated playback was one of the things I liked about Samsung ROMs the most. Of course, the lack of that feature is no fault of you and your team! Really do hope they release sources for you guys. :)

  3. Chaos says:

    Hi there,

guess this means we have to wait for the kernel sources to get the manual net selection fixed?
Or is this problem not kernel related?

get well soon!! keep up the good work…..thanks

  5. bala_gamer says:

For the first time i have started using cm for my daily usage, the experimental builds simply rocks,

i did asked this a few times earlier, how far is the implementation of hardware acceleration(force gpu rendering) in cm9? simply enabling that is enough or the apps need to enable it themselves via a flag?

  6. FRLinux says:

    Thanks guys you really rule.

One suggestion, I know you keep hearing about people saying they want to help and do not know how but it would be fairly cool if you could have a repo of the experimental so we can build it ourselves and possibly send patches?

    • codeworkx says:

if samsung releases kernel sources and we finished preparing everything.

      • FRLinux says:

Ah right, that makes sense. Good luck with that. Btw, you convinced me too, my next phone will be a pure Google.

  7. gurpartap says:

i want to request you that please in ur cm tweaks please tweak the search bar to search for the whole phone like even the apks in the sd card or the docs in sdcard it will be very usefull to all….many ppl want this and its there on many other roms so i wish its there on cm9 thank you

  8. Lazy says:

    gute Besserung!

  9. mcponhl says:

Are you working with XXKP8 at the moment?
    It’s really unstable for me…

Hope your got gets better soon :)

    Oops ‘got’ -> foot
    Stupid auto correction

  11. Arni says:

  12. Rushir says:

So what all doesn’t work? I have the AT&T variant, so I know it’s Atinm’s thing but it also depends on the stuff that works with the international variant right? I’m only 14 so don’t like yell at me :P

  13. Shakal says:

Get well soon! You have done great job and latest build of CM9 is already my daily rom. It already works great. Thanx a lot for your effort !

As you have some spar time, can you implement the Facebook Contacts Sync fix for AOSP ICS?

    Bless you

  17. jinx says:

in my experimentation with a dual boot program my phone became bricked, after trying several things i finally got it to enter download mode and flashed on clockworkmod 4. something, ever since then rom manager is messed up and only boots into clockworkmod 4 despite the rom using clockworkmod 5, any idea how i can remove this second cwm?

    • peter says:

simplest solution would be to flash a stock with ODIN and root again.
make sure you back up everything (and in case you flash partition table with odin make sure you backup you sdcard (internal+external))
you can access your sdcard by booting to recovery , mounts and storage, toggle usb mount

    • gav says:

Odin stock and start again ?

  18. Victor says:

Sorry about the foot, best wishes for a good recovery. I’ve had some problems with back and arm nerves for a few months, and if it is any consolation, I’d rather have your thing any day of the week. ;)

  19. frey says:

  20. Ran Sagy says:

You guys are really doing some great work. I hope you got my 10eur donation from a few days ago :)

Despite what’s not working, and what’s yet to be added, it’s an awesome ROM. Has been a fast and stable daily driver since last year (!).

I tore ligaments in my thumb ~15 years ago, and it still hurts on occasion. Given the choice between a broken bone and a torn ligament, broken bone, hands down.

  25. exmatproton says:

Thnx for the heads-up! I am really enjoying your experimental builds so far! Really running nice, using it as a daily driver!

  26. exmatproton says:

@Vibhu Yadav: That’s German…(i only know this, because i am from the Netherlands, so we know a little bit German ;) )

  27. tristan says:

Thanks Codework!! You have no idea about how many people you’ve already helped with your work That’s kind of great achievement every body dreams about in life!!

  28. Akkii says:

Hmmm any particular known reason they aint releasing kernel sources?

  29. Fayez says:

And might they don’t want to share it now…?

  30. Mirko_ddd says:

a file manager projected and made for CM9.. nice, a great step! The launcher is done, welldone, so I expect the same for the file manager.

    • codeworkx says:

The launcher isn’t done. Everything is still under development.
      Will take some weeks.

  31. Chris says:

Are samsung required by GPL to release kernel sources?

  34. sam-old-sung says:

Samsung, why u no release kernel source!!!

  35. Tzi says:

EaFirst Congratulations for the nice job, but about video recording and playback, both work whit the original xxkp8 leaked firmware, could u not obtain kernel sources from there ?

    • codeworkx says:

You should learn some basics. ;-)

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compiler
If something is compiled, like the XXKP8 kernel, then there’s no real way back to make usable sourcecode out of it.

      • Harrie Nak says:

I’m not into Android coding, but reverse engineering is a no go?

        • codeworkx says:

hurts, takes forever and a waste of time because we’ll get the sources before we would have finished.

        • Akkii says:

Dunno per se about android but reverse engineering is the hardest it :O its more of guess work and trying to figure out how they might have done it.

          • Tzi says:

So let me see in my noobish, u need someone from samsung tk leak the original kernel, i dont know but i think u guys do a lot of Samsung programers hardwork. :)

keep it up man! meanwhile sincce the CM9 thread has been closed will you still be releasing experimental builds?

  38. Derek says:

Hey Codeworkx, just wanted to say that the work you and the team have been doing is awesome! Sucks you had to close the thread, but I was getting frustrated with stupid people as well. I don’t blame you ;) donation coming your way, it’s not much since I’m a student, but have a beer on me ;)

  39. Mario says:

Are you going to put all these experimental builds on ROM Manager?, it’s to easy flash from it.

  40. Dave Muir says:

I really, really love these ‘experimental’ builds.
Latest one is actually running better and more stable than most ROMs!

Codeworkx, you are genius and a gentleman.

  49. Eric Lee says:

Definitely a great piece of effort and work from codeworkx and co. Keep it up guys! I am a little disheartened to hear that the thread has been closed as I’ve been reading it intently. But I do get why it had to be closed. You have my full support!

I echo the comments of most users, 01062012 build is superb. Although having a few bugs, which is none of your fault, it is definitely more than stable enough for me to use daily which I am!

    Thank you once again.

    Hi Codeworkx,

I don’t know if you did this already but, about of the video codecs and playback, i installed MX VdeoPlayer on your ROM and i can see all my videos, i tested videos from my camera and a movie in .mkv format. i guess If you can take the codecs that install MX VideoPlayer might it works.

Sorry if i say something stupid, i don’t know about of programming.

I was thinking of upgrading to the latest build for the new kernel which is said to be faster and smoother but it has been said that the ril has too many problems. I had a question, say if I flash the new build, then flashed the XXP8 modem should there be any problems?? Could this be a solution to the RiL problem on the latest 01122012?

great work Codeworkx but if you can see on the galaxy nexus there is a space or margin between icons and the edge of the screen on the Homescreen so i don’t know if this also will need the kernel or not but if it’s possible to add it for the CM9 Roms will b really cool and it looks neat too , i saw the cm9 for galaxy note and it’s there .. is something like this possible ?

  80. Nobody says:

    Hey codeworkx!

    I9100XXLP2 ## 4.0.3 2012 January I9100OXALP2 Open Europe Download

New Android 4.0.3 leak by Samsung for SGS2: I9100XXLP2.
    The day after friday 13th…
After our release of I9100XXLP1 are we proud to bring a newer version!!!
    Damn one day after…
Yes the SamMobile crew is working all day!
Nevermind it is weekend or not today the release of I9100XXLP2.
This version is again a bit more stable, we create a small movie of I9100XXLP2. (see below)

Things that you need to know about this firmware…
    - Faceunlock is back.
    - Option to use taskmaneger.
    - Interface: Nothing in case of XXKPA.
    - Battery: Battery feels better.
    - Faster: Phones looks faster.
    - Touch: Touch response is better.
The overall score about this fw is good.

Samsung created this rom on January 10 2012.
As the tilte say: This FW is based on Android 4.0.3
If you want you could download this firmware via our firmware page.
And if you want to discuss this rom use our brand new forums!

    http://www.SamMobile.com/firmware

It seems that Samsung is working very hard on their Android 4.0 update for SGS2.
Samsung is still using their own TW software.
Lots of Android fans are not happy.
But in the real world maybe 5% of all Samsung Galaxy S II owners takes care about updates.
Samsung combinate a lot of Android 4.0.3 tweaks in their own TW.
This will keep the owner happy because the owner knows TW.

  85. Marcel says:

    MfG.Marcel

    Hi Codeworkx,

Just wanted to say that your work is phenomenal and thank you! Both me and my 2 housemates are now using your 6th Jan ICS builds with no major complaints!

The only question I do have is are you eventually planning to implement avrcp 1.3 (or higher) for streaming track information via bluetooth as this was present in Gingerbread (based on Samsung roms)?

Only a very minor thing (and certainly not a complaint!) but thought it was worth the ask :)
